PU leather or genuine leather for a cosmetic bag
25 Oct 2026
Short answer: for a cosmetic bag that ships flat and has to hold its shape, PU is usually the right first material. It takes a debossed or foil logo cleanly, it folds without creasing, and the colour range is stable between orders. Genuine leather is the right answer when the bag itself is the product — a retail item sold on its own — or when the brand’s language is leather.
What actually decides it is not the material name but three numbers: thickness, backing and how the logo is applied. A 0.9 mm pebbled PU with a knitted backing behaves differently from a 0.7 mm smooth PU with paper backing, and only one of them holds a deep deboss without the grain going shiny at the edges.
Ask before you design: send the logo size and the bag’s widest panel, and we will tell you which material and which logo method survive both.
